Berkshire surgeons

Mr
Peter Constable, MA MD FRCOphth, undertook his medical
training at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, and Worcester College, Oxford,
before moving to Moorfields Eye Hospital and the Western Ophthalmic hospital
for his higher specialist ophthalmic training. He spent two years in
clinical research at the Institute of Ophthalmology for his higher degree in
the management of glaucoma, as well as completing a clinical Fellowship in
the Glaucoma Unit at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
He was appointed as a consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Berkshire
hospital in 1999. He provides general and specialist ophthalmic services at
the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading , and West Berkshire Community
Hospital in Newbury, and consults privately at the Dunedin hospital in
Reading. He has a specialist interest in the diagnosis and management of all
types of glaucoma, and he also established and runs a dedicated modern day
case cataract service at Newbury hospital.

Mr Martin Leyland,
BSc (hons) MB CHb (hons) MD FRCOphth. I hold NHS consultant posts at the
Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, the West Berkshire Community Hospital
in Newbury and the Oxford Eye Hospital. Private Consultations are available

including 3 years at Moorfields Eye Hospital, and specialise in anterior
segment ophthalmology, including cataract, corneal, conjunctival and eyelid
disease. I also care for patients with all kinds of ophthalmic disease,
including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration and
strabismus (squint).
I am a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the Oxford
Ophthalmologic Congress and the Cochrane Collaboration for Evidence-based
Medicine. I regularly speak at regional and national meetings on corneal
disease and keratoplasty techniques. I am the College Tutor for Berkshire
and Clinical Director of Research and Development at the Royal Berkshire
Hospital. My research interests have concentrated on visual outcomes of
cataract surgery leading to a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) for a thesis on the
use of multifocal intraocular lenses in cataract surgery. |

Mr Andrew Pearson MA
MRCP FRCOphth holds Consultant Ophthalmologist posts at the Royal Berkshire
Hospital, Reading and King Edward VII Hospital, Windsor and consults
privately at the Dunedin Hospital, Reading, the Princess Margaret Hospital,
Windsor and Thames Valley Nuffield, Wexham. Contact details can be found at

Mr Pearson trained at Cambridge University and St Mary’s Hospital,
Paddington, qualifying in 1989. Higher training in internal medicine led to
the award of Membership of the Royal College of Physicians. Training in
ophthalmology commenced in 1993 with a first post at the Prince Charles Eye
Unit, Windsor. Extensive experience in cataract surgery and further training
posts in each of the sub-divisions within ophthalmology led to the award of
Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1996 and full specialist
accreditation in 2001.
Mr Pearson has undertaken two advanced higher specialist training programmes
in oculoplastic surgery at both Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham and
Moorfield’s Eye Hospital, London. He is a founder member of the British
Oculoplastic Surgery Society, and a member of the United Kingdom and Ireland
Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and European Society of Cataract
and Refractive Surgeons. He regularly presents research at national and
international scientific meetings.

Mr Vaughan Tanner
holds NHS Consultant positions at The Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading and
the King Edward VII Hospital, Windsor. Private consultations are available

During his higher surgical training at the Oxford Eye Hospital he gained
extensive experience in small incision, cataract surgery. His research
interests and publications include cataract surgery, vitreo-retinal surgery,
macular disease, macular hole repair and retinal imaging. His fellowships
included three years of advanced sub-specialist training at Moorfields Eye
Hospital and St Thomas' Hospital, London in the surgical and medical
management of retinal disease. He regularly gives regional and national
lectures and has co-authored “Diseases
of the Ocular Fundus ”. This textbook was awarded first prize as "Best
Authored Textbook in 2005" by the Royal Society of Medicine and Royal
Society of Authors. |
