World class vision correction treatment - right on your doorstep

What is vision correction

Refractive vision correction is the collective term used for a range of treatments that rectify abnormalities on the surface of the cornea that may result in short sightedness, long sightedness or astigmatism.

The two main types of procedures are Laser Vision Correction (which may be either LASIK or LASEK) and Refractive Lens Exchange.

LASIK laser surgery is the most popular and widely known vision correction treatment in the U.K. Throughout the procesure, your eye surgeon will use a laser to open up a small flap on the cornea which is then carefully lifted so that the cornea can be reshaped to correct the eyes refractive error. With LASIK surgery visual recovery is swift.

LASEK laser surgery is used as an alternative where the thinness of the cornea has made LASIK surgery unsuitable. In LASEK procedures, the surface layer of the cornea is loosened and folded back, instead of creating a flap. The cornea is then reshaped in the same manner as in LASIK surgery to reshape the cornea, correcting the refractive error. Visual recovery after LASEK treatment is slower than with LASIK and you may experience discomfort in the eye for a few days after treatment.

Refractive Lens Exchange is used primarily for patients over 50 years old. It involves the replacement of the eye’s natural lens with a new and permanent implant.

In most cases these procedures completely remove the need for any glasses or contact lenses to be worn.

Who can be treated

Most people, aged over 21 years old, are eligible to safely undergo visual correction treatments. However those suffering from Keratoconus may need an alternative treatment that will involve strengthening the cornea (corneal cross-linking) in conjunction with one of the laser vision correction procedures above. In addition, lazy eyes cannot be treated by laser vision correction techniques.

It is important to fully disclose your medical history to your consultant before embarking on any treatment, as those with Glaucoma, Diabetes, severe dry eyes and some other general conditions may not be able to undergo laser surgery.

What are the benefits

Both Laser Eye Surgery and Refractive Lens Exchange can dramatically improve the sharpness and clarity of your vision, by significantly improving the focussing ability of your eyes.

By correcting long and short-sightedness these treatments will, in most cases, totally remove your dependence on glasses or contact lens.

The procedures are quick and painless and will leave you with a much greater quality of life and freedom to continue to enjoy the things you love to do.
