Many CESP offices provide private consultations
and surgery to self-paying patients and those with
private medical insurance.
In recent years the NHS has received
unprecedented investment aimed at improving the
service provided to NHS patients. Waiting times for
routine operations are now lower than ever before.
Despite this, there are advantages in seeking
private treatment with CESP:
The Clinic Experience
- When you are referred to see a Consultant you
will be always be seen by that Consultant and not
by a trainee working under a Consultant’s
supervision.
- At every clinic visit you should be seen by
the same Consultant who is familiar with your
condition, ensuring continuity and quality of
care.
- Your consultation will be a relaxed affair.
All new patients generally have a 30 minute
appointment while follow up patients have a 15
minute appointment.
- Your consultation will usually be at your
Consultant’s private rooms or at a local private
hospital. All facilities normally offer
comfortable and uncrowded waiting rooms.
The Surgical Experience
- Your surgery will be performed by the
Consultant who has seen you in the clinic rather
than by a trainee surgeon.
- A choice of intraocular lens implants may be
available to patients undergoing private surgery.
- There will be complete flexibility about when
your operation is undertaken. Some CESP offices
will be able to offer you a choice of local
hospitals for your surgery.
- Following surgery, the Consultant who carried
out your operation will see you at each
post-operative visit. He/she will also be easily
contactable should you have any worries or
concerns in the immediate post operative period.
Quality and Continuity of Care
At CESP we believe the most important factors in
choosing private eye care are the quality and
continuity of care, as well as the time spent
waiting for surgery.
What is the cost of treatment?
- The fees for a private consultation and for
surgery will vary slightly from region to region.
Up to date prices for consultations and surgical
packages are available on the web-pages of your
local CESP office or by contacting that office by
‘phone.
- The fee for cataract surgery is ‘fixed-cost’ meaning it includes the
professional charges for the surgeon and anaesthetist, plus hospital fees and
charges for aftercare. This normally includes any additional visits up to 1
month following any operation.
- If you have a cataract and would like to
consider having private surgery under the care of
CESP, please contact your local office directly.
Alternatively, if you are uncertain whether you
have a cataract or it is some time since you were
last examined by an optometrist, it would be wise
to make an appointment with your GP or optometrist
in the first instance.
